There are two types of bedrooms in this style:
1. The minimalist style, which has only the most necessary items in it. This is a visually pleasing room, rather than a tactile or sensual bedroom. It often has polished floorboards and blinds on the windows. Walls are plain. There is no wallpaper, no floor rugs, no curtains, no soft lampshades, and no upholstered furniture. Tubular steel, leather and canvas are often used. Colour is kept to a minimum and often used in a dramatic way, with no more than two colours used. Yellow with dark blue is often used, as is black and white or red and white (but not red and black since this is Dramatic). This is often a male-decorated bedroom and is popular with architects and designers who prefer to see the elements of the design rather than having unnecessary items around as distractions.
2. The modern Contemporary bedroom is stylishly individual and unusual in design and colour. It is softer than the minimalist style, yet still more severe than other styles. Colours are strong and bright, with unusual colour combinations creating a stunning individual look, for example, bright combinations of turquoise, yellow, pink, orange or green. This style suggests a casual holiday atmosphere and is usually chosen by younger people and those who are very creative or confident and outgoing. Holiday homes are often decorated in this style, as the colours create a vibrant, happy, fun and easy-care atmosphere and pleasurable holiday memories.
